PAST EXPERIENCE

Freelance Promotions Assistant at Yes Please PR

I have worked at Wilderness Festival, Oxfordshire for the past two years as part of the official Press Team. This involved liaising with artist management to organise broadcast interviews, conducting backstage pit and press runs, overseeing press and radio accreditation at the box office, and liaising with high-profile clients to provide a positive festival experience. I also put assisted in copywriting the official Wilderness press release in 2022.

Publications Officer at the Student Music Network

My experience creating zines and platforming new musicians saw me elected as SMN’s first ever Publications Officer. Here, I worked from May to December 2021, connecting students with music industry opportunities, mentoring budding student journalists, and building relationships with PR’s.

I also launched, commissioned, and co-edited the network’s first ever print magazine, DEBUT, which provided twenty-four budding music writers with the opportunity to interview some of 2022’s most exciting budding artists, including Wet Leg, Priya Ragu, and Cassyette. The magazine is sponsored by Spotify UK. Click here to read online.

Editorial Assistant at DISOBEDIENT RECORDS

Prior to the labels unfortunate closure, I worked as Editorial Assistant for Disobedient Records. The role involved liaising with PR’s and artist management to organise interviews, editing articles for the Disobedient Records blog, managing weekly playlisting, and writing press releases for new signees.

Additionally, I co-produced and edited the quarterly print zine, ‘Do One!’ which platformed exciting upcoming musicians in the indie and punk scenes, while regularly interviewing artists for the zine myself, including Blanketman.

Editor-in-Chief at The Mic Magazine (2020/21)

In the second year of my English degree, I discovered that I liked writing about music a whole lot more than poetry. By the end of that year I was Editor-in-Chief of Britain's biggest student music magazine, The Mic.

The role involved managing a team of over 40 student music journalists, coordinating two 64-page print issues featuring cover interviews with Shame and Glass Animals, and editing over 100 music articles. The hard work of myself and the team was rewarded when The Mic was awarded Highly Commended for Best Specialist Publication, along with two writer nominations, at the national Student Publication Awards 2021.

Music Editor at Impact Magazine (2020/21)

I had the pleasure of editing the music section for the University of Nottingham’s award-winning magazine, Impact for the 2020/21 tenure. The role involved commissioning and editing all articles for the section, sourcing interview opportunities with local and international music artists, generating weekly article proposals, running social media streams, and building relations with regional and national music PR.

The Mic x Amnesty International Charity Gig (March 2020)

After the unquestionable success of 2019’s charity gig in aid of UNICEF, which saw Birmingham hotshots Sugarthief and Spilt Milk Society tear off the roof, The Mic returned to The Bodega in partnership with Amnesty International, alongside some of the hottest up and coming bands in the indie scene.

I had the pleasure of booking and marketing the event, which hosted local lads Blondes (just months before their viral TikTok mania) and Midlands band Violet, before a headline sell-out from Blackwaters. The event delighted more than 200 people and raised over £1000 for Amnesty International.
